In II Samuel 6: 11, 12 we read that Obed-Edom and his entire household were blessed because of the ark of the Lord. Since Obed-Edom had the ark of the Lord in his house, he was able to receive such a blessing.
It’s not “just” because of the ark but because of the things that were present inside the ark. Let’s analyze those things and get the spiritual analogy of the items in the ark of the Lord, so that we shall be blessed as well.
The Jar of Manna
In Hebrews 9: 4 we read that the ark of the Lord contained the gold jar of manna. Manna denoted the word of God.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that we should have numerous copies of the Holy Bible at our home. Rather our lifestyle should abide by the Word of the God.
We should also develop the habit of regularly meditating on the word of God. In Exodus 16: 21 we read that everyone gathered manna in the morning.
Early morning is the right time to meditate on the word of God. When the Israelites looked for manna later during the day, it was all melted and they could not gather it.
It is true in our case as well. After the early morning where we get some uninterrupted quite time, later during the day, we get so many things that come in our ways. We won’t be able to allot time for the word of the God when we get busy later during the day.
As we read in Psalms 119:147, we have to rise before the dawn and out our hope on the word of God. Deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 7 and 8 tell us that we should impress the word of God upon our children and we have to talk and think about it all the time.
Talking about the blessings of meditating on the word of Lord, we read in Deuteronomy 11: 20-25 that when we carefully observe the word of the Lord, He will drive out all the nations and enemies before us.
In up to verse 25 we read about the different types of blessings that the Lord provides to those who carefully meditate and practice on His words.
As we read in Joshua 1: 8 we should not let the word of God depart from our mouth. We must meditate on it day and night. If we do so, we will be prosperous and successful. We will also be wise.
Most of the times though, we cast His words behind us (Psalms 50: 17). If we don’t have the word of God with us, we will be friends with thieves and adulterers and we will speak deceitful words!
The budded staff of Aaron
The ark of the Lord had the budded staff of Aaron. As we read in Numbers 17: 6, 7 Aaron’s staff represents the reign of the Lord in our lives.
Lord’s presence should fill us and we should let the Lord alone (and not others) rule our lives and our household.
As we read in Ephesians 2: 1-3, our lives before salvation was ruled by worldly things. But the same should not be the case after salvation.
If Lord’s reign is in our house, everything that happens in our lives will abide by His rules – this is a sign that we are letting the Lord rule us!
There is no drought and emptiness in the house that abides by the rules of the Lord (Ex. 1 Kings 17:15).
The stone tablets of the Covenant
Commandment, Ordnance, Law – These are the three “types” of the Lord’s words that were present in the house of Obed-Edom. The word of the Lord is of two categories:
[box color=”white” type=”square” icon=”hand_point”]1. The ones that are generic (Logo).
2. The ones that are said or written under specific specific and/or to specific people (Rhema).[/box]
As we read in Deuteronomy 7:8 if we keep the oath He will redeem us and our descendants with His mighty hands. Our generations will be blessed.
When Jehoshapat sought the Lord and followed His commandments, the Lord established the kingdom under his control.
He had great wealth and honor (2 Chronicles 17: 4). The Lord’s mercy is upon those who remember to obey His percerpts (Psalms 103: 17, 18).
The secret to why the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and his household?
There is no secret actually. The Lord has told us explicitly what He expects from us so that He can bless us abundantly.
Do we have these items in our household?
